Bridgeport, PA (September 10, 2024) – In a historic moment for the Borough of Bridgeport, Montgomery County, the town council has officially renamed Bridgeport to "BooPort" for the entire month of October. This comes after an extraordinary meeting where the residents of the Elks Lodge on Ford Street—alongside local ghouls and goblins—demanded their Halloween spirit be acknowledged by the town council. In response, a proclamation was signed by Council President Saba Al-Zaid, declaring Bridgeport the spookiest town in Montgomery County and renaming it “BooPort.”
"BooPort is the kind of place you see in movies, with whimsical streets filled with hundreds of trick-or-treaters," said Saba Al-Zaid, Council President. "Last year, my house alone received over 400 children knocking on the door. It’s a special place with a spirit of community unlike any other. Now, we’re officially recognizing that energy by transforming into BooPort for Halloween."
The renaming marks the start of a month-long celebration, during which BooPort will be home to over 40 frightful and fun events, suitable for all ages. Festivities include a grand Halloween parade, Halloween-themed parties, contests, and the return of the Bridgeport Elks Lodge Haunted House—a beloved community tradition. Throughout the month, residents of the Elks Lodge and other community members will be decorating the town, transforming it into a true Halloween wonderland.
